Hundreds of Yahoo Mail users reported problems yesterday morning, with the e-mail service inaccessible for
some users while very intermittent and sluggish for others.
This is the second service outage at Yahoo in the past five weeks.
There was also an increase in reports of problems with Yahoo Mail over at Twitter, and another company called
Downrightnow also reported problems accessing the service throughout the day Monday.
Additionally, people at C-NET also reported that they could'nt access their in-boxes.
But Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo's website appeared to be working fine though. The problem appeared to be
centered on Yahoo's mail servers.
According to ComScore, Yahoo Mail is a popular Internet-based email service with about 98.2 million users in
July 2009.
Gmail, Google's e-mail service, is growing rapidly as well, as the third most-popular e-mail service behind
Microsoft's Hotmail.
But even Gmail has suffered some high-profile outages a number of times this year.
Microsoft's Hotmail service had numerous problems as well, most of them in the early part of the year.
If email service is critical to you or to your business, and if you can't afford to lose any mail, you might
want to consider commercial email service providers
such as Sure Mail.
It's a popular email service that is very affordable. We have been using it here at Tech Blog for the past three
years and we've never had an outage thus far. Another similar service is Email Relay.
